A year on from the European Accessibility Act’s main deadline, 2026 is when supervision and enforcement start to bite.
- 2026 is the first full year national authorities are actively supervising against the EAA deadline that passed on 28 June 2025.
- Sweden’s Post and Telecom Agency has opened its first regulatory cases targeting e-commerce; France saw the first EAA lawsuits in late 2025, with more Member States acting this year.
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA is now effectively the legal baseline for covered digital products and services — and it applies to any company selling into the EU, even from outside Europe.
Why it matters: Australian and other non-EU businesses that sell to EU consumers are in scope. Accessibility is moving onto enterprise procurement checklists alongside GDPR.
