The Canadian government has finalised regulations to pay a one-time $150 supplement to Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) recipients to help cover the cost of certifying their Disability Tax Credit (DTC).
- The amendment was published in the Canada Gazette on 1 July 2026 and takes legal effect on 1 September 2026.
- The lump-sum payment applies for each approved DTC certificate that qualifies someone for a monthly CDB payment, including people no longer receiving payments who received one before the change.
- No application is needed — eligible recipients will be paid automatically once the change takes effect.
Why it matters: Getting a Disability Tax Credit certificate assessed and signed off by a medical practitioner can cost real money, and that expense has discouraged some low-income applicants from applying. A guaranteed top-up removes some of that financial disincentive.
