Canada tightens how disability tax credit applications can be submitted from mid-July

From 14 July 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency will no longer accept new Disability Tax Credit applications through the “submit documents” tool in CRA online accounts, pushing applicants toward the dedicated online DTC form instead.

  • The “submit documents” feature will now only be used for follow-up information the CRA specifically requests on an existing case, not for new applications.
  • The CRA is encouraging applicants to use the online DTC application form, which is always the current version and helps avoid missing sections that cause delays.
  • From 8 September 2026, paper Form T2201 versions dated before 2023 will no longer be accepted; applicants must download and use the current form.

Why it matters: Delays in Disability Tax Credit processing can hold up related benefits and tax relief, so disabled Canadians and their families applying this summer should check they’re using the right channel and form version to avoid a stalled application.
